The New Nintendo Console

So, Nintendo unveiled their new console this week! I am a little underwhelmed by the name (Nintendo Switch 2 does not roll off the tongue like its predecessor), especially next to the GameCube, the Wii, and the Nintendo 64—but what am I going to do about it?

With Nintendo’s backward compatibility plans, I am hoping Super Smash Brothers Ultimate gets the same ‘upgrade’ treatment as Mario Party Jamboree and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! (I want to keep the roster intact…just give us more characters and stages, Nintendo!)

I think it is really cool that Masahiro Sakurai is returning to develop the new Kirby Air Riders, and I was impressed by Mario Kart World!(it looks like it’s a Forza game, just with characters from Mario) Continuing on with adding crossover characters in Mario Kart, I think it is high time Captain Falcon became a playable racer! It is head-scratching why it has not happened yet.

Though, I will say, the pricing on these games are starting to get ridiculous. Especially with the lackluster content Nintendo has put into some of their more beloved franchises, I was disappointed with the $80 price tag.

Speaking of Mario Strikers and F-Zero, I am also ecstatic about GameCube games coming to Nintendo Switch Online! But while I’m sure everyone was losing their minds for Silksong, Soulcalibur 2, and Bloodborne 2 (I’m sorry, The Duskbloods), I am really excited for the new Donkey Kong Bananaza!

We have not had a new Donkey Kong game since Tropical Freeze and a new 3-D platformer since DK 64, back during the Rare days in ’99! I have seen a lot of people criticizing the new re-design, but it is growing on me! It is a nice mixture of Rare’s Donkey Kong Country design and his old arcade appearances! Here’s to hoping King K. Rool is a twist villain or something like that!

With games like Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 arriving on the Switch 2, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Sea of Thieves finds its way onto the console! Imagine a DK-themed shipset sailing around Port Merrick! (I am a nerd for Rare’s games, can you tell? Still waiting on Banjo-Threeie)
