Author’s Note
I know, it’s been a couple of months! I have an idea for a series of stories that I’m still tweaking, but it should be coming down the pipeline shortly! I’ll publish them on the blog when they’re ready!
In the meantime, my thoughts on the recent Quarterback change (go Big Blue):
Here we go.
Not that John Mara cares, but the New York Giants have started the season 0-3—woo. We’ve had flashes of brilliance, but our offense has been largely stagnant, our defense cannot get off the field in a timely manner, and our special teams have been just ok. I have been trying to keep my expectations in check, but I would be lying if I said I was not a bit disappointed in how things have gone thus far.
That changes this week.
Jaxon Dart was named the starting Quarterback for the New York Giants, headed into a Week 4 matchup at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. I am not sure what to expect. I am not sure if we will come out of the gate swinging on Sunday, or if it will be a gradual, slow burn. Dart may have a bad, immemorable day as a rookie, or he may get into a shootout with Justin Herbert and finish the game with three hundred and sixty-four yards passing and four touchdowns. It’s my article, I can dream if I want to! 😊
Above all, though, I hope Giants fans (me included) stay patient. I know, it has been a rough, rough five years, but that is not Jaxson Dart’s fault. He deserves a chance to prove himself just like anybody else. I think expecting an immediate shift in the team is unrealistic. Will the offense find a rhythm with Dart under center, and will we finally win some games? Maybe. But we need to see what we have on the field first and foremost, and then re-evaluate from there.
Some have commented that this is only an attempt by Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen to save their jobs as Head Coach and General Manager. Here’s my counterpoint: even if that is the case, we have to rip the band-aid off at some point. Throwing Dart into the deep end may not be the best strategy of all time, but at least they are trying to improve the team. I am going to remain hopeful, because who knows what may happen. One thing is for certain for us Giants fans, though: there’s a new era in New York.
Good luck, Jaxson! We’re all counting on you! (insert Airplane GIF here)
